Game Boy Advance SP - Questions About Headphones
Questions About Headphones:
- How do I connect headphones to my Game Boy Advance SP? (See below)
- The manual says that I have to use Nintendo
headphones. Is this true?
Before Installing Headphones:
- To use headphones with the Game Boy Advance SP, you will need
to have the Headphone Adapter (sold separately through
Nintendo's Online
Store, or by calling our Consumer Service Department at
1-800-255-3700). Please note, any headphones with a 3.5mm jack,
which is standard, will work with the Game Boy Advance SP Headphone
Adapter.
- Before use, be sure to set the volume slider to a low setting.
To install the Headphones
- Insert the Headphone Adapter into the EXT 2 port, on the top
of the Game Boy Advance SP.

- Insert the headphone jack from the headphones into the connector
on the end of the Headphone Adapter.
- The manual says that I have to use
Nintendo headphones? Is this true?
The text in the manual refers to the use of Nintendo headphones
in conjunction with the Nintendo e-Reader.
- With the e-Reader: When using an e-Reader,
we only recommend the use of licensed Nintendo headphones. For
the Game Boy Advance SP, the Game Boy Advance SP-specific headphones
are available. For the original Game Boy Advance, licensed headphones
are no longer available. We recommend against using unlicenced
headphones with the e-Reader due to possible radio frequency
interference.
- Without the e-Reader: When not using an e-Reader,
the use of any standard headphones is fine. When playing the
Game Boy Advance SP with standard headphones, you will also
need to purchase the Headphone Adapter. You can purchase this
product through our Online Store, or by calling our Consumer
Service Department at 1-800-255-3700.
